Local Youth Raise $301 for Lobos No-Kill Animal Shelter

What started out as a group of parents hosting family Halloween parties about 10 years ago, turned into the children of those parents starting their own "Haunted woods" for Charity.  The first youth hosted event was four years ago.  The kids charged 25 cents for a 5 minute walk through the woods.The one night event has grown into a very long and thrilling spook walk for $2.00.   They promoted the walk by making flyers and passing them out to their friends and classmates. The kids also added the sale of cookies and hot cider and cocoa this year.  The first year of the event the kids kept the monies earned to put toward future spook walks.  The second year they gave the money to the Red Cross to help the victims of Katrina.   These last two years the kids have given the money raised to the no-kill animal shelter. "These kids are all animal lovers, so it was an easy decision deciding to help the animal shelter."said one of the parents.  Another parent said " It is something the kids can really relate to and  they can see for themsleves how the money helps. They feel really good about what they are doing"
